“Everyone can sing. Every voice is important and should be heard, however it is expressed. For me, there's a vulnerability inherent in singing, a beauty that transcends the spoken word, a sharing of the soul and humanity within that can sometimes connect us in ways that are otherwise unreachable. A singing voice may be off pitch or out of rhythm, but the tone . . . the quality . . . the emotion . . . those all contribute to a singing voice that is unique and true and worthy of recognition.”

Julie SingsI've been a singer my whole life. At times I wasn't available for my voice, but my voice was always available for me.
During this workshop, my intention is to guide you in finding confidence in the availability of your unique sound.
Julie's StoryAfter graduating from Houston’s High School for Performing and Visual Arts, getting married and starting her family, Julie moved to Southern California in 1989 and immediately fell in love with her beautiful new hometown…Los Angeles. She traded her hurricane lamps for earthquake preparedness kits and began raising her newborn daughter.
Once her daughter became a little older, Julie began singing professionally in many different capacities:
She then began volunteering with several community organizations, and soon realized she had a knack for leading groups of people. This led to her career of over 20 years in the field of volunteer and community led project management. To date, she has trained and mobilized thousands of volunteers of all ages in hundreds of community led projects on school campuses, streets and parks throughout Los Angeles County. In the late 1990’s, she co-developed a volunteer leadership training which is still being used by a Hands On Network affiliate, L.A. Works. In 2008, Julie joined the staff of the environmental non-profit TreePeople to manage the work of the Forestry Department, a vibrant group of dedicated tree planting and restoration professionals. While at TreePeople, Julie became a trained Council carrier and facilitator at the Ojai Foundation, whose mission is to foster practices that awaken connection with self, others, and the natural world. Her favorite musical gig in L.A. was her monthly hour long lounge set entertaining guests at TreePeople’s Moonlight Hike! In 2013, Julie was vacationing - camping alone in the Angeles National Forest atop the San Gabriel Mountains, CA. She was having fun hiking, taking beautiful photographs and singing out in nature when she had a mild stroke. This event changed her world forever! Julie and her partner, illustrator and bass player Chad Glass, recently relocated to her father’s 11 acre ranchette in Canyon Lake, TX where they are happily living and creating art and music. Julie sings with the Austin improv band Gretchen’s Disco Plague (It’s Infectious) and is a part of bands Tracy Weinberg & Friends and Phat Tuba, Lovin' It Lounge Singer and enjoys the heck out of it! She is a former Voice Instructor at The Hill Country Sound Situation in Blanco, TX. Julie is a founding Vice-President, Board of Directors of the non-profit Villatopia and she is the J part of CJ - Event Artists! |
